Instructions
All video games come with instructions on how to play the game: controls, design affordances, etc. This section will detail the Purpose, Audience, and Major Themes of my ePortfolio.
Video games can be used as a metaphor to describe a learning journey: you are immersed in an unfamiliar world, you must learn your way around, learn skills along the way to help you with tasks that need to be performed, and apply those skills to future events and circumstances.
In the same way, I underwent a learning journey through the Masters of Educational Technology (MET) program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I was thrown into an unfamiliar learning environment (online), I learned new skills that have enabled me to fulfill tasks given to me by end bosses (UBC professors!), and I can apply these learned skills to my daily practise in my classroom and district.

Purpose
Foremost, the purpose of my ePortfolio will be to meet the requirements created by TQS and UBC to increase my standing to a category 6 teacher in the province of British Columbia.
Secondly, this ePortfolio will be used to reflect upon my learning journey in the MET program at UBC. While I do mentally reflect daily upon my experiences in learning and teaching, I have not purposely reflected in written form. This ePortfolio will preserve my reflections for me to look back upon as I progress in my teaching career.
Lastly, this ePortfolio gives me an opportunity to reflect on how I have been applying educational technology theoretical learning frameworks to my teaching practise in my classroom.

Audience
This ePortfolio is intended to celebrate my learning throughout my studies in the UBC MET program. I am striving to demonstrate to myself and others that I have actually learned something and I am applying it in my daily teaching practise.
However, it is hard for me to create my ePortfolio for only one audience. In fact, I hope that my ePortfolio can show my learning to numerous groups of people. In no particular order:
However, it is hard for me to create my ePortfolio for only one audience. In fact, I hope that my ePortfolio can show my learning to numerous groups of people. In no particular order:
- UBC Faculty - to assess my learning in the MET program
- TQS - to confirm that I have met the requirements of ETEC 590 and grant me category 6 standing
- MET Alumni - Educators that have graduated from the MET program and continually learn and reflect using the learning from this program
- Current MET students - Colleagues from this ETEC 590 cohort and other ETEC classes, as they have walked beside me on this journey
- Future MET students - Complete strangers to current/former colleagues from my teaching career that are considering applying to the MET program
- Employers - Current and future employers to see what I have learned, continue to learn and how I am applying it in my daily teaching practise
- Family - to demonstrate to my wife and daughter that the family-time sacrifices I made during this learning journey will ultimately be for their benefit
Major Themes
Whilst reflecting upon my learning journey through the MET program, major themes of interest in educational technology (ed tech) became apparent. These sub-areas of ed tech were topics that I gravitated towards in my studies. Be watchful for learning artifacts that highlight mobile devices, etextbooks, digital storytelling, and gamification.
